Explanatory Notes

This miscellaneous section focuses on foreign versions of Peggy Lee's original albums and singles. Throughout the page, the adjective "foreign" should be taken to mean "released outside of the USA and the UK." Ditto for the adverb "abroad." The page is divided into 3 parts, of which the first is dedicated to albums and the last to singles. The middle section covers some foreign albums, many of them EPs, which do not have an American or British counterpart, and which could be either considered or confused with original albums. For a few additional explanations about objectives and contents, consult the notes at the very bottom of the page.

I. FOREIGN EDITIONS OF PEGGY LEE'S ORIGINAL AMERICAN (AND BRITISH) ALBUMS

Please notice that, because most of the album editions listed below are nearly identical copies of the originals, they have not been incorporated to the main pages of this discography, otherwise known as the sessions pages. The exclusion was dictated by other reasons as well, including the vast amount of space that these entries would add to an already densely packed sessionography.

ALL AGLOW AGAIN
[Capitol Masters]
1. FRANCE. Pathé Marconi CS/LP: Pm 156 554 4/1 - All Aglow Again! ("Retrospect" Reissue Series) (July 1985)
2. THE NETHERLANDS. Capitol LP: T 1366 H - All Aglow Again!
{Note: The cover of the Dutch album is different from the American original. It shows a very reduced version of the photo that was used for the cover of the American album Jump For Joy.}

AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE
[Decca Masters]
1. NEW ZEALAND. Festival LP: Fl 7047 - Around The Christmas Tree
{Note: This album is a various-artists compilation with just one Peggy Lee vocal, "Ring Those Christmas Bells." It has the same cover as the USA original.}

6. JAPAN. Emi Toshiba CD: Tocj 6858 - Beauty And The Beat! (November 2006)

8. THE NETHERLANDS. Emi Bovema LP: 5c 056 81 465 - Beauty And The Beat!: Capitol Presents Peggy Lee And George Shearing And The Quintet
9. THE NETHERLANDS. Emi Bovema LP: 5c 022 81 465 - The Beauty And The Beat ("Supersound" Series) [Cover different from the American original; photo from the same sessions as the Where Did They Go cover]
10. THE NETHERLANDS. Emigold LP: Dag 108 - Live in Person; Beauty And The Beat
11. SPAIN. Emi Odeon CD: __ - Beauty And The Beat! ("Jazz Voice" Series)
{General note: All the CDs listed are believed to contain the 1992 edition of the CD, rather than the excellent remaster from 2003. However, "believed" is the operative word; since I have not listened to the specific issues in question, I cannot fully guarantee that my belief applies to those bearing release date from 2003 onwards.}
{Note about the 1988 Japanese CD: Earliest CD release of this album worldwide. Includes two bonus tracks. Not released in the United States until 1992.}
{Note about the 2002 Japanese CD: Mini-LP cardboard edition.}
{Note abour #7: Tentative title. Its existence still needs to be fully corroborated.}
{Note about #8: Gatefold cover. Photo is the same as the American original, but it only covers half of the cover and has no text; the other half is reserved for the text, in black and white.}
{Note about #8, #9, #10, and possibly #7: The cover of these Dutch counterparts is different from the cover of the American original. It is a picture taken in the same photo sessions as the cover of the LP Make It With You.
{Note about the Spanish CD: Made by EMI Odeon for Global Rhythm Press, located in Barcelona, Spain.}

BENNY'S BEST
[Columbia Masters; United States original: Columbia 78 album, released in 1947]
Foreign counterparts:
1. CANADA. Columbia 78 album: 6322-6325 - Benny Best
{Note: 6322-6325 presumably stands for the range of numbers of the album's discs. The album's actual catalogue number is not given in the listing that I consulted. There is only one Peggy Lee vocal in this issue: "Why Don't You Do Right?".}

BENNY GOODMAN AND HIS ORCHESTRA WITH PEGGY LEE AKA BENNY GOODMAN AND HIS ORCHESTRA AND SEXTEX, VOCALS BY PEGGY LEE (Columbia)
[Columbia Masters; United States original: 78 album, released in 1947 and re-released, in various configurations, in 1949]
1. AUSTRALIA. Philips 10" LP: B 07626 R - Benny Goodman With Peggy Lee
2. THE NETHERLANDS. Philips 10" LP: B 07626 R - Benny Goodman With Peggy Lee
{Note #1: These two issues bear the same exact number. Except for the respective photos on the cover, they are the exact same item, distributed by Philips in both continents. Originally a Dutch company, Philips was in charge of distributing Columbia's albums in most countries abroad, including Engand, during the 1940s and later. [I can only presume that, in addition to the aforementioned Dutch and Australian editions, there is also a British version. However, I have yet to come across a British copy, or to find corroboration of its existence.}

BEST OF PEGGY LEE, THE [Decca]
[Decca Masters]
Dozens and dozens of albums bearing this title have been issued. Herein my main concern is with the album whose catalogue number is Decca Dxb 164, the earliest "best of Lee" ever released (1960). Given its many reprints and reissues both in the United States and abroad, it ranks as a popular and influential album in Lee's canon. Beside the albums which can be easily identified as reissues due to the use of the same front cover and title, there ate numerous Japanese MCA "Best of" issues which, though bearing different covers, could be deemed reissues of this American Decca original. Most of those Japanese MCA issues tend to substitute two or three of the songs in Decca Dxb 164 for other Lee numbers, however. Other arguable reissues contain only about half of the original 24 tracks. All the ones of which I'm aware have been entered in the sessionography, except for a few British issues that are listed in this discography's special page for British issues. Herein, I'll list just 4 of those issues, as a basic sample:

1. ARGENTINA. Ariel 2LP: 4012 - The Best Of Peggy Lee
{I do not have the track listing of this set. I assume that it is identical to American Dxb 164. The front cover is certainly the same one.}

2. GERMANY. Brunswick 87056 Lpbm - The Best Of Peggy Lee (1961)
{I do not have the track listing of this set. I assume that it is identical to American Dxb 164. Aside from the Brunswick logo, the front cover is certainly the same one.}

2. JAPAN. Decca 2LP: As 7 (Dls 13/14) - The Best Of Peggy Lee
{Note: 24 tracks, just as in the original USA album, but 3 of the original numbers ("That's What A Woman Is For," "You Let My Love Get Cold," "The Siamese Cat Song") have been replaced with other 3 songs to which Japanese audiences clearly were more responsive ("La La Lu," "Johnny Guitar," "Autumn In Rome"). The cover is different. There is no photo, and no drawings. It's bare and all red, except for the text, in gold lettering. Like the 1960 American original, it is a gatefold album; the same six photos found in the inner cover of the USA album are found inside, along with text in Japanese which might or might not be a translation of the Leonard Feather notes.

3. THE NETHERLANDS. Mca LP: dz 177 001 - Lover ("Golden Aces" Series)
{Note: Contains 10 of the same 12 tracks that are in the first volume of the Decca 2LP anthology The Best Of Peggy Lee, Dxb 164. It substitutes "Ooh, That Kiss" and "How Bitter, My Sweet" with two tracks not in Decca Dxb 164, "He's A Tramp" and "I've Got You Under My Skin."}

4. SPAIN. Mca LP: Peggy Lee ("Voces Y Sonidos De Oro, Volume 8) (1971)
{Note: 12 tracks. Contains the exact same tracks as the first of the two LPs in Decca's The Best Of Peggy Lee, Dxb 164. Also uses the same photo, downsized and with a golden framing around it.}

5. THAILAND. Mca cassette: 747 - The Best of Peggy Lee ("Super Evergreen Edition" Series)
{Note: 16 tracks, the same ones included in Peggy Lee ("Golden Greats" Series), an abbreviated British 1981 version of the American Decca album. The cover of the Thai casssette has the same photo as Decca Dxb 164, but downsized and cheapened by drawings of what looks like skies, planet, and rainbow. Also identified as "stereo 747 pop."}

BEWITCHING-LEE!
[Capitol Masters]
1. AUSTRALIA. Capitol LP: Enc 9148 - Bewitching-Lee! ("Encore" Series)
2. AUSTRALIA. Summit LP: Sra 004 - Bewitching-Lee!
3. AUSTRALIA. World Record Club LP: __ - Bewitching-Lee!
4. THE NETHERLANDS. Capitol LP: __ - Bewitching-Lee!
{Note about #2 and #3: The artwork of the albums from Summit and the World Record Club is completely different from the artwork of the American original. Those two Australian albums use an arresting photo, not seen elsewhere, possibly dating from Peggy Lee's 1961 stay in England.}
{Note about the Australian World Record Club LP: It deletes one song from the American original and adds three. The deletion is "Mañana." The additions are "You Don't Know," "I'm Gonna Go Fishin'," and "Is That All There Is?".}
{Note about the Dutch LP: This version, whose artwork I have not seen, has only 10 of the American original's 12 tracks. Deleted are "Don't Smoke In Bed" and "While We're Young."}

BIG SPENDER
[Capitol Masters]
1 JAPAN. Capitol LP: Cp 7567 - Big Spender

BLACK COFFEE [EP]
For the EP of this title on Festival Records, see below, under section two, entitled Foreign Albums With No American Counterpart. For the original American LP (first issued as a 10", later as a 12"), see below, under Black Coffee With Peggy Lee.

BLACK COFFEE AND OTHER DELIGHTS [CD]
[Decca Masters]
1. JAPAN. Mca Victor CD: Mvcm 32007-320008 - Black Coffee And Other Delights (ca. 1995)

BLACK COFFEE WITH PEGGY LEE [EP]
[Decca Masters]
1. FRANCE. GERMANY. Brunswick EP: 10120 - Miss Peggy Lee
{Notes: This issue's songs are "My Heart Belongs To Daddy," "Love Me Or Leave Me," "It Ain't Necessarily So" and "Gee, Baby, Ain't I Good To You." Its cover is different from the American original. It is a photo of Peggy Lee that was used not in the American Black Coffee but in other issues, such as Lee's Camay LPs. This Brunswick cover adds to that photo a few ornamental details: leaves of various colors and green stripes.

BLACK COFFEE WITH PEGGY LEE [10" LP]
[Decca Masters]
1. BRAZIL. Decca 10" LP: Lts 23016 - Peggy Lee canta para você ...
2. FRANCE. Decca 10" LP: Us 233139 - Black Coffee
3. NEW ZEALAND. Festival 10" LP: Cfr 10 510 H 723 - Black Coffee
{Notes. All these 10" LPs contain the same eight songs as the original, American 10" version, but the respective covers are different. None features the coffee table photos found in the 10" and 12" American albums. The Brazilian and French issues do not use any photo at all. Both have canvases that are blank except for the written text and some basic design. The Brazilian canvas is split vertically into two colors: one half is orange, the other half red. The letters of Peggy Lee's name are shown inside musical notation signs. The canvas of the French 10" album consists of large stripes in 4 colors: blue, red, gray, and cream. The canvas of the Festival album is in black and white, except for one small stripe in red and the word coffee, also in red. Besides the text, the canvas is partially filled with a photo of Lee, circa 1953.}

{Note about the French 12" LP: I have not seen this album; my data about it has been gathered from the internet.}
{Note about the French CD: A cheap, Public Domain job. Not recommended.}
{Note about the 1989, 1992, and 1999 Japanese CDs: Include "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" as a bonus track. Other Japanese CD editions may include it, too, but those three are the only ones for which I have found tentative corroboration.}
{Note about the 1994, 1999, 2004, and 2008 (#9631) Japanese CDs: Mini-LP cardboard editions.}
{Note about the 1994 Japanese CD: 20 Bit Remastering.}
{Note about the two 2008 Japanese CDs: Touted as SHM-CD reissues. According to the advertisement, this "high quality SHM-CD (Super High Material CD) format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan, discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing, SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc, allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players." This release is also part of the 200-album SHM-CD Series Campaign from Universal Music Japan.}
{General note about the Japanese CDs: In a few case, the release dates strike me as possibly wrong. However, I have entered them because they are the only dates given in the various sources that I consulted.}

BLUES CROSS COUNTRY

1. FRANCE. Capitol LP: 062.55294 - Blues Cross Country
2. FRANCE. Pathé Marconi CS/LP: Pm 155 294 4/1 (also Pm 231) - Blues Cross Country ("Retrospect" Reissue Series) (October 1984)

{Note: The one LP listed is a counterpart of the American LP. The listed CDs are counterparts of the American CDs. The CDs have 5 more songs than the 12-track LP.}
{Note about the Emigold CD: It also also carries the numbers Cdmfp 6150 on the back cover and Cdmfp 6149 inside. The cassette version is identified as Tcmfp6149. The picture on the cover of this issue shows Peggy's face, one hand pensively under her chin; the coat she's wearing is also visible.}

{Note about the two earliest Japanese CDs: Three bonus tracks. "Autumn In Rome," "Baubles, Bangles And Beads," and "Do I Love You."}
{Note about the 1999 and 2008 Japanese CDs: Mini-LP cardboard editions.}
{Note: Curiously, the cover of the Festival LP is yet another variation on the same drawing found in the cover of the American Decca album. (The other variation is the cover of the UK Brunswick LP.) In the Festival Records cover, Lee is looking to her left, and his face is slightly down, rather than straight up. Her features are drawn less soft than in the other versions; her eyes are unusually (and inaccurately) blue. The collar of her dress -- a coat -- is in a darker green than in the original USA cover. The street, located on the left, is the same as in the other versions, but part of it has been cut, thereby making it possible for a second street to show up on the right side of the cover.}

{Note about the Argentinian EP: It translates the song's titles into Spanish. The songs are "Fiebre," "Tú no sabes," "Escucha al rockin' bird," and "Nena, espérame." The cover is different, too: various rulers shown again a dark orange background.}

GUITARS ALA LEE
[Capitol Masters]

5. THE NETHERLANDS. Capitol LP: 5C 054.80056 - The Hits Of Peggy Lee; The Best Of Peggy Lee
{General note: The American version, entitled The Hits Of Peggy Lee, is an 11-track album released in 1968 as part of Capitol's "Star Line" series. The British version, entitled The Best Of Peggy Lee, is an expanded, 16-track album that was originally released in 1968, and re-released later on. These two versions have different covers.}
{Note about the Asian LP: The cover shows the same photo of Lee as the American version of The Hits of Peggy Lee, with one difference. It is a head shot of Lee with a leopard skin behind her. The difference is that the Asian album's photo has been colored yellow.}
{Note about the Czech LP: Licensed from Capitol. This album contains 14 of the 16 tracks in the British version. Missing are "Why Don't You Do Right?" and "I'll Only Miss Him When I Think Of Him."}
{Note about the Israeli LP: Different cover from American and British versions. Also different from #1 above. A head shot of Lee, the same one that was used for the cover of the Capitol album Bewitching-Lee!, but with a pitch-black frame.}
{Note about the LP from the Netherlands: I have not seen a physical copy of this album. If online listings are correct, then the album contains 15 of the 16 tracks in the British version. Missing is "I'll Only Miss Him When I Think Of Him."}

I'M A WOMAN [EP]
[Capitol Masters]
1. AUSTRALIA. Capitol EP: Eap 20 512 - I'm A Woman (aka Fever)
2. FRANCE. Capitol EP: Eap 1 20 444 - I'm A Woman (1963)
3. GERMANY. Capitol EP: K 41.590 - I'm A Woman
4. JAPAN. Capitol EP: Cp 4183 - A Taste Of Honey
{General note: In the United States, no EP titled I'm A Woman seems to have been released. The original I'm A Woman EP issue is instead British Eap 4 1857, which contains 4 of the numbers in the 12" LP. Of the EPs listed herein, only the German one contains the exact same tracks as the British version, although its cover photo is different. The Japanese EP contains three tracks from the LP and one song from a different, 1964 LP. The Australian EP combines two numbers from the LP with two earlier hit songs -- "Fever" and "Heart." The French EP is only marginally related to the LP; it has been culled from the album Sugar 'n' Spice, with the song "I'm A Woman" thrown in for good measure. Incidentally, this French EP uses an original, very interesting cover photo, not seen anywhere else: a shot of Lee performing at Basin Street East; it is different from the one used for the cover of the labum Basin Street East Presents Peggy Lee.}

2c. SPAIN. Columbia EP: Ecge ?78795 - Lady And The Tramp / La Dama y El Vagabundo
{Note about the French EP issue: There might have been two more EPs, the last one numbered 560.}
{Note about the Spanish EPs: All three covers show the same photo of Peggy Lee, which was also used for the cover of the original US Decca LP Songs From Pete Kelly's Blues. The three EPs present the photo against a white background; her blouse is colored differently in each EP. The third EP adds two songs not from the movie: "I Belong To You" and "How Bitter, My Sweet."}

4. NEW ZEALAND. Festival 10" LP: Fr 10 1186 - Songs From Lady And The Tramp
{Note about the Brazilian LP: The cover contains two drawings. One shows Lady & Tramp during the spaguetti scene, as they kiss one another. The other features them just standing one next to the other. Also includes a small black & white photo of Peggy Lee: http://www.peggylee.com/pics/peg162.jpg . This photo is indeed from her Lady And The Tramp publicity sessions.}
{Note about the Festival LP: Its cover drawing is entirely different from the American original and the other covers. It shows the streets and two superimposed canine heads. One looks like Lady's, the other more like Trusty's than Tramp's. As with the American original and the Brazilian counterpart, there is also a relatively small photo of Peggy Lee, but it is a different photo.

PEGGY LEE [Decca]
[Decca Masters]
In print sources, the original Decca album Songs In An Intimate Style is found sometimes with the erroneous title Peggy Lee. For details about this particular album, see below, under the correct title.

All other Decca-related LPs and CDs bearing the title Peggy Lee are compilations, not original albums. Most of them are from Japanese reissue series. In the sessionography, I have entered all of those of which I am aware; herein I'm offering, as a sample, just two of them.

1. Peggy Lee ("Best 22" Series)
As far as I can ascertain, this Mca CD was originally released in Japan in 1986, with catalogue number 35 Xd 510. In 1990, MCA reissued it with catalogue number Mvcm 28009.

2. Peggy Lee ("Best Selection" Series)
The listing that I have for this Japanese CD title identifies it as an Echo Industry release, catalogue number Evc 3035. I have another listing for what seems to be the same title, but with a different catalogue number (Evc 327) and from a different series ("Super Selection" series). No known year of release in all cases.

{Note about the Festival LP: Entirely different cover from the American Decca original. Against a red background with a few drawings done in white, there's a head shot of Peggy in the top right corner, a shot of Ella Fitzgerald in the bottom left corner.}

2. URUGUAY. Capitol LP: 1401 - Pretty Eyes

RENDEZVOUS WITH PEGGY LEE

{Note about the Pathé Marconi issue: A source wrongly lists 2 bonus tracks, "Sugar" and "Save Your Sorrow For Tomorrow." It has no bonus tracks.}
[Note about the Japanese LP: It is said to include 3 bonus tracks, "Everybody Loves Somebody," "Sugar," and "Save Your Sorrows For Tomorrow." If anyone owns a copy of this album, I would appreciate receiving corroboration that those bonus tracks are included.]

The Brazilian item shows a drawing of a blonde, vaguely reminiscent of Peggy Lee, wearing a white blouse, a long black skirt, and a black hat. Surrounding three quarters of the cover is a garland of pink and white roses.}
{Note about the Japanese CD: Mini-LP cardboard edition. Not for sale. Sent out as an incentive to customers who bought the 20-CD set "Universal Female Vocal Collection."}

4. UNKNOWN. Disc Kiosk CD: __ - There'll Be Another Spring ("On Demand" series) (2006)

[Capitol Masters]
1. AUSTRALIA. World Record Club LP: __ - Two Shows Nightly (1968)
2. JAPAN. Capitol LP: Cp 8597 - Two Shows Nightly (1968)
{Note about the Japanese LP: It's on red vinyl, as was the case for most Japanese Emi LP releases from this period. Distributed by Everclear Records.}
{Note about Australian LPs: Details are scant. It is possible that this album was also released on Australian EMI.}

UNCOLLECTED PEGGY LEE, THE
[The original is an American album, consisting of radio transcriptions and radio broadcast numbers.]
1. JAPAN. Hindsight CD: R 28j 3117 - The Uncollected Peggy Lee (ca. 1989)
2. JAPAN. Hindsight CD: Bvcj 2054 - The Uncollected Peggy Lee (1994)

1. AUSTRALIA. Emi/Drum CS: Tc Senc 16150 (Drum 4154) - The Very Best Of Peggy Lee {1973?)
2. THE NETHERLANDS. Emi Bovema LP: 5C 062.81357 - The Very Best Of Peggy Lee
{Note: The original is a compilation that was released in the United Kingdom, with no counterpart in the United States.}
{Note about the Australian LP: Whereas the British version contains 16 tracks, this Australian version has only 12. The 4 skipped tracks were "Fever," "Alright, Okay, You Win," "Makin' Whoopee," and "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life?" I am aware of the cassette and the LP only, but an 8-track tape is a possibility as well. The catalogue numbers that I am listing are very tentative; they could be incorrect.}

WHERE DID THEY GO?
[Capitol Masters]
1. AUSTRALIA. World Record Club CS/LP: C 02595 / R 02199 - Where Did They Go?

WHITE CHRISTMAS, SELECTIONS FROM IRVING BERLIN'S
[Decca Masters]
1. FRANCE. CID LP: 263.539 - Noel Blanc (White Christmas)
2. JAPAN. Mca LP: 7151 (Map S3768) - Selections From Irving Berlin's White Christmas (1974)
3. JAPAN. Mca LP: Vim 7277 - Selections From Irving Berlin's White Christmas (1981)
{Note about the French LP: Its cover features photos of Crosby and Kaye that are different from those in the American and British issues. The photos of Berlin and Lee have been omitted. The horse cart scene is clearer and, contrary to the other issues, not partially obliterated by the artists' photos. It has been tinted a very light air force blue, and its backdrop has been heavily darkened. Overall, this particular tinted color makes the photo resemble a film negative.}
{Note about the Japanese LPs: The photos of Berlin, Crosby, Kaye and Lee are different from those in other versions. The cart scene has been tinted pink salmon.}

WOMAN ALONE WITH THE BLUES, A
[Decca Masters]
This anthological CD from the Spanish label Blue Moon was also released by EMI itself in Asia.

II. FOREIGN ALBUMS WITH NO AMERICAN OR BRITISH COUNTERPART

Peggy Lee's original albums were all released in the United States or in the United Kingdom. As already explained, foreign editions of such original albums are the primary target of the present page. In this section, I am listing a few miscellaneous foreign albums that could be perceived as original insofar as they have no American or British counterpart. The listing is selective; I could have also included numerous compilations that have been issued abroad only, especially in Japan. (A fair number of them belong to special series with titles such as Best Now, Deluxe, Double Deluxe, Excel One, Golden Double, Golden Compact, On Silver Screen, Twin Best, and This Is. ) While left unlisted herein, such compilations are included in the regular, main pages of this discography -- i.e., in the sessions and the indexes. All the albums listed below have also been entered in the indexes and the sessionography.

Black Coffee [Festival]
[Decca Masters]
1. AUSTRALIA. Festival EP: Fx 10-536 - Black Coffee (ca. 1962)
{Notes: The cover shows the same photo that graces the American Decca LP The Best Of Peggy Lee (Dxb 164). Tracks: "Black Coffee," "Just One Of Those Things," "This Is A Very Special Day," "Bye Bye Blackbird."}

Elmer's Tune; Benny Goodman, Vocals By Peggy Lee
[Columbia Masters]
1. JAPAN. Cbs Sony LP: Sopj 22-23 - Elmer's Tune; Benny Goodman, Vocals By Peggy Lee (1972)
{Note: Partially titled after the 1947 eight-song 78 album that was the first full Goodman-Lee album release, this Japanese LP set actually includes all the Columbia masters that the pair jointly recorded, and also a few alternate takes. 32 tracks. The drawing on the cover (a clarinet) is the same one used on the 1947 album.

Hit Parade
[Decca Master]
1. Brunswick EP: 0e 9340 - Hit Parade
{Note: This is a various artists Decca compilation that contains just one Peggy Lee vocal, "Mr. Wonderful." The EP appears to have been pressed in both Great Britain and Germany, with the same catalogue number. I suspect that th original version of this compilation was made in the USA, but if so, I have yet to find any traces of its existence.}

Love Me Or Leave Me
[Decca Masters]
1. AUSTRALIA. Festival EP: 10 537 - Love Me Or Leave Me (ca. 1962)
{Notes: I have not seen the cover of this EP, but I suspect it to be the same photo that graces the American Decca LP The Best Of Peggy Lee (Dxb 164). Tracks: "Love Me or Leave Me," "My Heart Belongs To Daddy," "There's A Small Hotel," "They Can't Take that Away From Me."}

Lover [EP]
[Decca Masters]
1. AUSTRALIA. Festival EP: Fx 5003 - Lover (1958)
{Notes: The cover shows a drawing of Peggy Lee in the act of singing. She is wearing a purple dress, with a long pearl necklace around her neck. In the greenish background wood and shrubs are shown. The model for this drawing of Lee is obviously a still from the movie Peter Kelly's Blues. Tracks: "Lover," "Just One Of Those Things," "This Is A Very Special Day," "Baubles, Bangles And Beads."}

Miss Wonderful [EP]
[Decca Masters]
1. AUSTRALIA. Festival EP: Fx 5097 - Miss Wonderful (1958?)
{Note: The white & brown cover shows a relatively small mid-1950s b&w photo of Peggy in a tight dark dress. It is from the same photo sessions as the artwork of Brunswick's Presenting Peggy Lee and Pete Kelly's Blues. Tracks: "Mr. Wonderful," "Apples, Peaches And Cherries," "You Go To My Head," "I've Grown Accustomed To His Face."}

Peggy Lee With Dave Barbour
[Capitol Masters]
1. JAPAN. Capitol LP: Ecp 88169 - Peggy Lee With Dave Barbour (1974)
{Note: All the tracks in this 1974 anthology come from the period of 1945 to 1949, except for the closing track, Lee's 1959 recording of "My Man." The full track listing can be found in the LP Index, which is chronologically arranged by year of release.}

Portrait Of Peggy Lee, 1941-1942, A
[Columbia Masters]
1. JAPAN. Cbs Sony LP/CD: 20 Ap 1486 / 32Dp 563 - A Portrait Of Peggy Lee ("Enchantment Of Jazz" Vocal Series) (1986)
2. JAPAN. Cbs Sony CD: Sicp 124 - A Portrait Of Peggy Lee (May 2002)
{Note #1: This LP contains a total of 16 tracks. I am less certain about the two CDs, which I have never actually seen, except in photos online. The information at hand suggests that the earlier CD contains 16 tracks, just like its LP counterpart, and that the 2002 CD includes 8 more, for a total of 24 tracks. Same collectible cover in all three issues: a drawing of a young Lee on a rootpop, the Manhattan skyline behind her.}

Presenting Peggy Lee
[Decca Masters]
1. SCANDINAVIA. Brunswick EP: Bhe ?9344 - Presenting Peggy Lee
{Note: The counterpart of this issue is a British EP that bears the same title and uses the same artwork (a photo of Lee, also found in the Brunswick edition of the album Pete Kelly's Blues.) The tracks of the two EPs are different, however. Tracks in the Danish issue: "Mr. Wonderful," "The Gypsy With Fire In His Shoes," "Johnny Guitar," "I Don't Want To Play In Your Yard." For the tracks in the British version, consult miscellaneous page for British Issues.}

September In The Rain
[The original is an American album, consisting of radio transcriptions.]
1. JAPAN. Norma / Candlelite Collectors' Pressing LP: Nlp 1010 - September In The Rain (1998)
{Note: There could have been an American version of this album, but if such was the case, I have yet to find traces of it.}

Somebody Loves Me [EP]
[Decca Masters]
1. AUSTRALIA. Festival EP: 10 538 - Somebody Loves Me (ca. 1962)
The cover shows the same photo that graces the American Decca LP The Best Of Peggy Lee (Dxb 164). Tracks: "Somebody Loves Me," "He Needs Me," "Sugar," "What Can I Say After I Say I'm Sorry."}

Swinging Miss L, THE [EP]
[Decca Masters]
1. AUSTRALIA,. Festival EP: 10535 - The Swinging Miss L (ca. 1962)
{Note: I have not seen the cover of this EP, but I suspect it to be the same photo that graces the American Decca LP The Best Of Peggy Lee (Dxb 164). Tracks: "I've Got You Under My Skin," "Baubles, Bangles And Beads," "It's Alright With Me," "Mr. Wonderful."}

III. PEGGY LEE'S SINGLES ABROAD
Most of the following 45s and 78s are not listed in the main, sessionographical pages of this discography. The exceptions are singles that lack an USA/UK counterpart or which have collectible picture sleeves; those are listed both here and in the sessionography. On another note, I should clarify that this section is organized alphabetically by country of origin (from Argentina to Uruguay). There is in turn a sub-division by record label (from Capitol to Odeón) within each country's entry.

Final Notes

1. My Motivation For The Preparation Of A Foreign Issues List
During the initial stages of my research for the main parts of this discography, I came across scattered, piecemeal data about Peggy Lee albums from Africa, Australia, Europe, and South America. I soon realized that most of them were foreign pressings of the Lee albums that had been originally released in the USA. For my main purposes, such album information qualifies as marginal, and hence dispensable. However, I see no reason to "hide" or ignore data that can be of interest to other Peggy Lee fans -- especially, albeit not exclusively, to fans who live outside of the USA and the UK. This page can also be deemed an outgrowth of another miscellaneous page, dedicated to British issues. Once I made the decision to create that other page, the road to an "international" approach was paved.

2. Completeness Of The Listings
Given the scarcity of sources for the information at hand, no claims of completeness can be made for the present page. Even its comprehensiveness could be questioned. (My assumption is that there are many additional foreign issues with which I have yet to become acquainted.) I think of the page as a work that will remain in progress for as long as the discography remains active.

3. Excluded Issues
Singles and albums that share the same catalogue number as their American or British counterpart are included only when I have found corroboration that they were printed in a foreign country.

4. Help Needed
I will certainly keep on adding more issues as they come to my attention. Contributions to my email address ( ivansantiagomercado@earthlink.net ) will be appreciated. Ditto for any corrections; readers must bear in mind that I have not physically inspected the majority of the items listed herein. (Instead, I have relied on a variety of sources, including published music guides and commercial listings online. The latter, in particular, are sometimes riddled with errors.)
